How to Set Up Categories

Sort your item by category, and select what to appear on your project sheet. Different settings per category and more.

In Fohlio, you can assign items to different Categories. From the upper section of the Project sheets, you can find the category filter.

Dividing items into Categories can be helpful for your workflow; sorting items, and many other settings on Fohlio.

To start setting up your Categories follow these steps:

1. Next to the Category dropdown there is a Gear sign - press on it to reach Specification Categories

Or from the Main Menu - Configure Phases > Specification Categories

2. In the Specification Categories screen you will find all Categories, and on the upper part, you can select which project you are working on.

3. Grey Categories mean they are not active for the selected project, the left toggle can be used to turn the category on and off in the project.

4. The In Contacts toggle means if the Category appears on the Contact book or not.

Note: You can have a category for the Suppliers or other Contacts so it could be useful when you want to search for certain Suppliers in the Contact book.

5. You can add a new Category in multiple ways:

A) Press the +Add Category green button, search for the category you want to add, or type any name and create a new category.

B) Add from a CSV file, by downloading the Template, filling in the information, and uploading it again.

(Make sure the Columns' name and order are not changed in the template)

6. You can add a Sub-Category to a category, you can have multiple sub-categories too.

7. Categories’ names and numbers can be edited, you can also delete them.

Note: In order to delete a category, please make sure that no items are assigned to it in any Project, including the Trash.

8. On the right side you can find out how many Columns are active in the Category, you can select which columns are active in this category.

(If a column is inactive in a category you can’t add information to that column on the Project sheet, this helps when you select the category on the Project sheet category filter, the inactive column will disappear and only the category active column will appear.

Pro Tip: If you want to have categories for the Contact Book and not in your projects, create a new category, turn it on for Contacts, and off for projects.

Categories are very important in Fohlio, most of the settings rely on them such as Procurement settings, Reports Settings, Formulas, and more.
