How to Use Column Properties

Assigning column properties helps Fohlio manage your data accurately—ensuring consistency in your library, enabling item reuse across projects, and powering pricing and budget calculations.

Working with multiple modules in Fohlio—like Project Sheets, Budgets, and the Internal Library—can quickly get complex. To keep your data clean and meaningful, Column Properties help the platform understand how each field should behave.

These properties determine:

  • Whether the column content is consistent across projects or project-specific

  • If a column supports pricing and budgeting tools

  • Where the data flows (e.g., to the Internal Library or cost calculations)

To make this easier to spot, icons now appear above each column to indicate its property. You’ll find these in Template Column Settings and throughout your workspace.

Let’s break them down:

Cube Icon Cube Icon — Product Info

This icon indicates the column is connected to the Internal Library. Any data entered here stays consistent across all projects for the same item.

Let’s say you're specifying a Panasonic 1045F microwave. Whether it's in your apartment renovation, an office fit-out, or even a field somewhere (microwave music festival, anyone?), it’s still called Panasonic 1045F. Its dimensions, model number, brand, and finish don’t change from one project to another.

That’s what Product Info is for—universal product data that:

  • Auto-fills when reusing items from the Library

  • Keeps your Library entries consistent

  • Can’t be edited directly in a project if linked

Examples of Product Info columns:

  • Product Name

  • Model Number

  • Dimensions

  • Brand

  • Color

  • Product Image

Pro tip 💡: Product Info fields can’t be edited from project sheets if the item is Library-linked. You'd need to either update them from the Library itself.

📁 Project Management

This property is for columns where values change per project. It’s the opposite of Product Info—perfect for tracking project-specific activity and status.

Back to the microwave example:

  • The product name stays the same (Product Info)

  • But the Quantity of microwaves? That’s different in every case

You might need:

  • 1 in your apartment

  • 5 in an office

  • 300 in that mysterious microwave field

Other examples of project-specific fields:

  • Quantity

  • Client Approval

  • Installation Status

  • Shipping Location

These columns are editable at the project level and don’t update the Library.

Calculator Icon Calculator Icon — Cost/Price

Use this for currency values like USD, EUR, MXN, or GBP.

Columns with this property support:

  • Currency display and exchange rates.

  • Budget Analysis and Cost Tracker.

  • Purchase Orders and Client Proposals.

  • Formulas involving prices.

You can assign this property by clicking the menu next to the column name (like "Total") and choosing the appropriate type.

Pro tip 💡: Once set, these columns plug directly into cost-based modules like:

  • Budget Analysis and Cost Tracker.

Examples:

  • Unit Price

  • Freight

  • Total Cost

  • Discount

🛠 What’s Next?

Now that you understand how Column Properties work, you can start putting them to use in your own workspace.

To review or edit the properties of your existing columns:

  1. Go to Account Settings → Phase Column Settings

  2. Click on column.

From there, you can review and change every Column Property (Product Info, Project Management, or Cost/Price)

This helps ensure your columns behave correctly across the platform—whether you're building out a Library, managing budgets, or preparing POs.

Pro tip 💡: It's a good idea to review your frequently used templates or categories and confirm that the key columns are assigned the right properties.
